Enrollment Status
Confirming your enrollment, and the certificates issued from it.
On admission, every student is allotted an enrollment number by the registrar. It appears on your identity card and on every marksheet and certificate the university issues, and it is the reference for all correspondence about your record.
Understanding your enrollment number
Enrollment numbers take the form JNU/YYYY/PP/NNNN — the year of admission, a programme code, and a serial number. For example JNU/2022/BT/1187 identifies a B.Tech student admitted in 2022.
Certificates issued against your enrollment
| Certificate | Purpose | Ordinary processing time |
|---|---|---|
| Bonafide certificate | Confirms current enrollment, for banks, visas and scholarships | 3 working days |
| Enrollment confirmation letter | Confirms enrollment number and programme | 3 working days |
| Character certificate | Issued on completion or withdrawal | 5 working days |
| Migration certificate | Required to join another university | 7 working days |
| Transcript | Consolidated marks across all semesters | 10 working days |
How to apply
- Download the relevant form from the downloads page, or collect it from the registrar’s office.
- Complete it and attach a copy of your identity card and latest marksheet.
- Submit it at the registrar’s office and obtain a dated receipt.
- Collect the certificate against that receipt on the date given.
If your record is wrong
Errors in the spelling of a name, a date of birth or a parent’s name should be reported to the registrar in writing as early as possible, with documentary evidence. Correcting a record after a degree certificate has been issued requires a fresh certificate and takes considerably longer, so check your details on your first marksheet.
